![]() Dungeness picture 6, Dungeness, Kent, England October 07, 2007 I said in my last post that I was aiming to do a 'buy prints' thingy on the site but I can't figure out how to do it. What with all the HTML nonsense. Never mind. Perhaps I will just give them away instead like Angie. A much better idea. Who wants money anyway. Not me. I've been putting a few pictures of Dungeness on the site recently and have never really mentioned anything about the place. It's a flat, weather-beaten, expanse of shingle coastline, loomed over by a nuclear power station. Dotted around, in varying degrees of decay, are fisherman's sheds and boats. About ten years ago I was given the book, Derek Jarman's Garden (buy it for the wonderful photos), and have wanted to visit ever since. Derek Jarman was a british film-maker and artist who, in the final years of his life, moved into Prospect Cottage at Dungeness and created a garden out of driftwood, flotsam and the hardiest of plants. Although Jarman died in 1994, the garden survives. We visited in September to have a quick peek, and although other people were wandering round the garden, it felt like we were intruding so we didn't linger. The surrounding area is a great place to visit though, especially with a camera. Perhaps you could go this Sunday? It's be a nice little drive out in the car for you and the family. My dad is 70 today. Happy birthday Billy the Kid. Holga CGFN + Fujifilm Superia 400 © James Arnold 2007 Comment (10) | Permalink |
