You can always do with more friends. Don't get me wrong, I'm not short of them, but one or two more friends are always handy to have. So it's with great happiness that today, while about to start watching Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, my new friend sat down next to me. I looked at her, she looked at me and we exchanged smiles. Fat, fifty and looked like fun. I knew we'd have a lot in common.

I hadn't really payed much attention to the previous 'Pirates of the Caribbean' film when I watched it a year or two ago, so after about five minutes of today's installment I was already a bit lost. Thankfully my new friend was on hand to help me out. Not so much with the plot exactly, but to let me know when something was funny. 'Ha! (snort) Ha!' To let me know when something was scary. 'Oh my God!' Even to let me know when the cute monkey appeared on the screen. 'Look, there's the cute monkey!' Without my new friend, my attention may have wandered. So I want to say thank you to my new friend. I also want to say that I hope your cough gets better soon. Slurping that Diet Coke didn't really ease it much, did it?

If you'd like to watch a film with a far simpler plot, I'd recommend 'Old Joy'. It stars Will Oldham (Bonnie 'Prince' Billy) and Daniel London with music by Yo La Tengo. Here's a brief synopsis: two old friends decide to go camping for one night, can't find the place they're looking for, camp somewhere else, then drive home the next morning. That's it.

As you can see, today's picture is another 'doves' image. Thanks to all of you who have already sent in deposits for your 'photographing doves with a toy camera in Garth Park, Oxfordshire, England' holiday. The money is now safe and secure in my bank account.
