Number 13 in series of images that remind me of my childhood
Taken the other Sunday, on an early morning walk near my parents house

This paddling pool was occasionally filled with water, but after a few days the water would turn green and the concrete woud be covered in a layer of slippery algae. The idea of this playground game was to throw a ball in the top hole, guess which other hole it would pop out of, dive for it before your friends got to it, slip on the slime covered concrete and crack your head open.

The first time we were allowed to go to the Homestead by ourselves we were very excited. There was me, Dave and Phil, and Paul. I think I must have been about ten years old. We put our jumpers on the ground for goalposts and started to kick the ball around. A few minutes later, four lads turned up and asked if they could play. Although about the same age as us, they looked a bit rough so we politely said 'no'. The next thing I remember was Paul being punched in the mouth and his lip splitting. I turned and ran all the way home without looking back.

For a little bit of history about the Homestead, click here. It's quite interesting.
