![]() doves 4 February 10, 2007 You've probably read about similar stories in the paper. Or perhaps seen them on the news. A man, or group of men, contact an individual through the internet; a chat room or such like. By the use of flattery and compliments, the unsuspecting victim is drawn into their confidence. He feels like he's know them a long time. He likes them and of course, he is sure that they like him. One day, he gets an invite to meet up with his new friends. To see them in the flesh. To speak to them in person. 'Let us go for a little walk together,' they say. 'Let us stroll through the woods.' The man willingly agrees. His wife and children tell him he is being foolish. 'Who are these new friends?' they say. 'Do not go, you do not know what they are like,' they say. But it is too late, for he is gone... Unfortunately, because of the rather inclement weather we have been having recently, I didn't actually go. We've had to postpone our little rendezvous. Today, I was supposed to be meeting Phil, Phil and Mike for the first time and with our chunky plastic cameras slung round our necks, we were going to wander round the Marlborough Downs to find interesting things to photograph. It's a shame, because I was looking forward to it. You never know, my wife and children might have been right about the three strange men. Perhaps if I had gone...
