![]() Christmas 2003 December 15, 2006 Gas-guzzling, high-polluting SUVs. The Range Rover, Hummer and Jeep. Yes, those huge monsters favoured by city drivers who pretend that they're a necessity when dropping off their kids at school. Why walk a mile when you can be elevated above the plebs in the street? Lock those doors, stare ahead and be safe. Did you know that there is enough material and poor gas mileage in one SUV to make two safe and efficient modern cars that are more than adequate for most of our transportation needs? As I type this, there's a £45,000 Lexus sitting outside the office. I'm going to drive it 200 miles to my parents house tonight and I can't wait. Before you track me down and smash the headlights with a hammer, scratch it with your keys, or smear dog poo on the windscreen, I have to admit that it's not actually mine. A friend, who deals in company cars, has arranged for me to have one free for the weekend as a sort of suck it and see. There's no way I would have one, even if I could afford it, but don't tell the lovely people at Lexus that. A doll was hurt in the making of this photographic image. Comment (6) | Permalink |
